If I could go back I would have bought a mill and a tractor and took my time cutting whatever trees I needed and built a house, you live and learn.
Well, it takes very much longer to build a house. If you were not in a hurry, you could of saved a ton of money. The little guest house I built, I have around $15K in it. That includes my mill, treatment plant and ac/heating central system. 95% of the lumber, I milled.

Very nice Fish. My grandfather had a mill making cross ties and my dad & uncles worked when they were young teens. He died when my dad was 16 so I only had the stories my dad could tell me. I think grandpa's operation was a lot more dangerous back in the 1940s.

Yep, my grandpa on my Mom's side had one. It killed him when my mom was 13 years old. Blade tip came off and hit him in the head. Same paw paw was one hell of a self made OT rich man. Had a cotton gen, sawmill, a floating movie house that was on False River, a bar room and a bunch of other things. He brought electrical power 2 miles from the Town of New Roads. People along the line would pay him cause he own the power line. Smart dude. He bought a lot of land too for pennies on a dollar at depression time. At one time, the family own around 3K ac. After he passed, my grandmaw couldn't handle things. I did have a chance years ago to read his books. Unreal what he built.
