So I'm splitting some wood, what kind of ants are these and do they bite?

I haven't seen those, but no one can convince me that an ant that big wouldn't bite the shite out of you....

In all seriousness, they're probably a type of carpenter ant if they're hanging out in a wood pile. Don't let them near your house.

Go get a splitting maul from the local hardware store.

An well placed axe we'll split just about anything. Look for the natural split/crack in the wood and hit it like you would hit an OT 10.
