There's a guy that has a lot of used reels for sell on LA Sportsman's site and he is out of Lafeyette.
He works on reels. Not sure if that's the guy you are talking about.

I send everything to Professional in NOLA. They are by far the best, especially for Shimano.
You can ship them there and they'll ship them back and charge your credit card if you dont get over that way much.

Not exactly in Lafayette (OK, not really close), but Superior Bait & Tackle on Siegen Lane (near Airline) does excellent work.
You might call 'em (225-293-3474) and ask about shipping back & forth using credit card.
I took a fairly expensive ($200) spinning reel in to get it repaired, and they provided the address for Shimano warranty work so I could get it done at no cost. I had no idea it was covered by warranty. My point is, they are straight shooters.

I know a guy in Eunice that does it.
Pretty cheap too and he repairs them.
He has a full time job so its in his spare time.

That seems to be what most of them do. On the side jobs

There used to be a guy in Kaplan that was awesome. Not sure if he is still there.
