mammoth drive off of monterrey. small industrial area toward north baton rouge. all of the shops have fairly small parking lots and now since they are superstars there are like 30 cars there every day and they think they can park where they see fit. doesnt matter if people cant get to their own businesses...

I have been into Saiga's for some years now and before the show they were considered one of, arguably the best converters in the nation.
Jealousy (even though it is a crappy show) seems to play a large part in the negative opinions in the last few years.
The guys sometime post on Bayou Shooter and seem to be nice.

They do pretty well with Saiga's but that doesn't make them "gunsmiths". Frick, I can convert a Saiga. It's not that hard.
Obviously, the show is staged. Gunsmiths NEVER work on deadlines. They work until they get it right. They don't place artificial deadlines on themselves and rush crap out before they've tested it and so on and so on.
But of course, watching a guy work over the feed rails on a Mauser chambered in a dangerous game cartridge with a small file for two weeks so that it chambers as smooth as butter every single time, sideways, upside down, or sticking straight up in the air while its owner is running from a lion trying to eat him, doesn't make compelling television.
The main thing I hate about the show are some of the guns they ruin and some of the stupid ideas they come up with.
Yeah, let's take a 1919 Browning machine gun that is still unassembled in the original WW II packaging and cut the barrel, add some sort of monstrous stock, and paint it purple. Fricking awesome
Or better yet, let's add a TASER to a shotgun. Because, he it's a great idea to combine a nonlethal weapon with a lethal one because everyone knows that in high stress situations, we need to make it as easy as possible to make a mistake and shoot someone we meant to TASER or TASER someone who needed shooting.

Wow, there are angry people about.

Nope, but I do hate to see a pretty much priceless gun turned into a poorly functioning purple paperweight so that some steroid popping black dude can be "badass" at some machine gun shoot.

I can feel you, although I don't agree with you.

Did you watch the show? They took a machine gun manufactured in 1942 and still in the original packaging and cut the barrel, machined the reciever, added various "tacticool" doodads, and paintied it purple. Of course, after they cut the barrel, it didn't function exactly right and was more or less useless in its modified form.
Allegedly, a big black dude brought it in for them to modify so that he would have a cool gun to shoot with his buddies.

Didn't they do what the owner wanted? They didn't steal it from a museum, right? :scratchhead:

I don't hate them. I DVR the show although it's gotten to the point now that I'm probably a month behind on it because it's not as interesting with all the sensationalized crap. I've never met them. Just telling you what I hear from folks who have been pretty well known in this state for decades who do know him.
I feel sorry for his employees to be honest. If it wasn't for the show, I can't imagine anyone working there for long.
And yeah, eyeballing it ain't how it's done unless your intention is building garbage.
