Just found out my wife matched into a fellowship program at UT Southwestern in Dallas starting in July 2020. It'll start in a year and last for 2 years.

I'm looking for any insight on hunting near the DFW area. I know public hunting is extremely limited in TX in general but am hopeful some opportunities exist.

I'm a hunting generalist so everything from small game to ducks to deer is great. I have a kayak, a pirogue, and a flat back canoe with a 2.5hp outboard to help me get around. Long walks in also don't bother me. I've only ever really hunted public land and grew up in LA so I'm used to dealing with the crowds.

As far as fishing goes, my real passion is river bass fishing in a kayak, and I know the Brazos is a relatively close option. Anywhere else I should be looking?

Thanks OB!

You ain't kidding.

BR to Shreveport to OKC and now heading to Dallas. Love will make a man do some things he never thought he'd do. But it's all good. At least there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Been a long road.

It's been good for my hunting and fishing abilities though. Moving around and encountering different situations has forced me to be adaptable and to translate skills across different environments.

farming around lake lavon is money for doves all season long, drive the back roads, meet some folks, offer to help and ask to hunt, just like the good old days in south LA, never hurts to bring allowing landowners frozen dove and sausage gumbo as a thank you, with instructions to heat dis up and make some rice. amazing how all the farmers network cuz I would get calls for them (some i’d never met, letting me know “the birds are on my place, see you saturday and please bring some of that Cajun cooking with you...”
I kid you not
I was haunt when I moved away from DFW....

UT Southwestern

Worked here for a while, great place to be at.

I've been here for 7 years and still don't know where to kayak fish and public hunting. Live walking distance from lake grapevine and kayak the lake some. Denton creek can be ok too since it's not too busy with people.

Texas fishing forum is full of into too.
