Although I would love a do everything UTV that could cross 6 ft deep water, haul 6 guys and gear, be completely noiseless, and have the power to climb a telephone pole if I wanted it to, I dont have 20 grand lying around. Furthermore, since the vast majority of my hunting on on a single 1000 acre tract of land with only one area of deep mud (which can be avoided) I really dont need do everything UTV.
What I do need is a side by side with the following qualifications:
Samll enough to get down trails 5 ft wide
Large enough to carry two adults and a child
Have a storage bed that can carry 350 lbs cargo preferably a dump bed.
Have enough power to pull a drag harrow and climb relatively steep hills while loaded with above persons and gear.
Have enough ground clearance to climb over 10" diameter logs
Be able to handle water at least as deep as the axles
Be relieable, and preferably cheap.
Anybody have any suggestions.

I hear the belts break on those things pretty often.

Not the EV's, just the 07 Xp models

I have a friend with a Bad Boy Buggy and he hates it.
It's been back to the manufuacturer I think about 5 times. I still isn't very reliable.
Also, the battery life in "slightly" muddy trails is terrible, i.e. 3-5 miles.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a used golf cart converted to off road?

I have a Polaris Ranger XP and love it. I had a Kawaski Mule that I sold to a buddy at work before that... and won't ever go back to the Kawasaki's after driving the Ranger.
It's 4 years old now and has had zero problems. It has only been back to the dealer twice in those 4 years for routine check-ups.
**Edit: Forgot about the Electric part. Mine is gas-powered, but it's quiet enough not to disrupt the wildlife any more than normal human presence.

I want electric only for spotlighting hogs with. The sneak approach on an electric vs a gas is bad arse.

I hunt with a guy sometimes that has a bad boy and that thing is a piece of shite. Battery life is terrible and it's a terrible ride. I feel like I need to go re-sight my gun in after we get off a rough trail. It feels so top heavy when you are on it and throws you every which way when you hit a bumpy spot. It will do okay in mud with some fully charged batteries, but other than that I have nothing good to say about it. I hope he drives it off in a creek some day.

We've had it picking the right front wheel up numerous times, but never had it flip. It's okay when it's just me and him on there but when you start putting people or a deer on the back it can get a little tipsy. He's adamant about keeping things 'quiet' on the place though, so whatever... Yeah, it doesn't have a gas powered engine on it, but the damn thing still makes a whistling noise nonstop and is squeaky as hell.

Yall are starting to convince me.

I am buying a gas burner next month. I am not through looking but I like the
KYMCOs.
KYMCOs.

I am able to spotlight hogs with ease on our place in Texas using our Ranger.
I even had a second 12-v plug installed in the dash by the dealer so that we can run 2 spotlights simultaneously.
They mind the light more than they do the noise of the engine, so we've started using red lenses. They'll just sit there and feed while we get ready to put the ARs into the action.

Yeah. Hogs are pretty dumb so the gas engine shouldn't bother them.
