I ordered a raymarine dragonfly 4 pro for my ascend 128t fishing kayak on my big boat I have lowrance but for the price for downimaging chartplotting etc was wondering if anyone had any experience with the dragonfly units?

I have one and love it. The WiFish app and Navionics app on your phone will connect to the Dragonfly and you can use your phone as a second screen or to plot new data for the navionics. Pretty neat stuff. I've created whole bathymetry maps for little ponds that aren't shot on Navionics.
The imaging itself is very good and I think it provides better target separation than traditional sonar.
Only thing I'll say is this: if you can afford it, return the 4 and upgrade to the 5 or 7. My biggest complaint is screen size. Now on the flip side, if you have an iPad you could rig up, you could have a massive second screen for the imaging and then the size of the dragonfly screen is no longer an issue.

Put a Dragonfly Pro 5 on my flat boat last year solely for navigation, even bought the model that doesn't even do sounding/fishfinding. For what I needed it's flawless. Popped in E-card for all my stompin grounds in the marsh and off I went. User friendly, gets it's fixes quick.

I have the 5 on my Cuda 12 and love it.

I've had the 7 for a while. Good map features, sounder is OK. I would not buy another one, processor is way too slow. When I add waypoints or try any other function I can get 3 or 4 digits ahead of the unit and have to stop and wait for it to catch up and I do not have the touch screen. It may well suit your needs but there are a lot of better units out there IMO. If they are going to try to pack it full of the features that everyone wants they have to put a faster processor in the unit.

Fair enough. I never use it to drop waypoints so you may have a legit gripe there.

I have one. Downfall is the small screen. I also have a lowrance elite 9 T1 and the size difference is huge. Nothing wrong with the unit, just wish it was bigger.

Really interested in this feature. How much detail does it capture and how user friendly is it? If I bought one of these it would be specifically to map ponds and small lakes.

I figured since this unit I was purchasing was going on my kayak I didnt want to spend a ton of more money on another lowrance unit but I've read mixed reviews on this dragonfly unit I figured ask around.
