I just moved to Alabama back in August. I brought my bow with me and I am looking for a place to bloody an arrow.
I live in Madison and have been scouting on Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. Is that a good place? I couldnt put alot of time in there yet but plan on going there this weekend.
Any suggestions?

Skyline Wildlife Management Area in Jackson County AL if they arent having a gun hunt this weekend. Also TVA land around Guntersville Dam but you have to get a permit before you hunt there.

Bankhead National Forest and Management Area. 95k-98k acres of dang good hunting. Best big racks in the state bar none. You have to work for them though. A lot of walking but well worth it. You have the oppurtunity to drag a record out of there every time you go in. Luckily i'm within 20 minutes of there!

Some good deer are taken off of Wheeler every year, but you have to work for them. I use to duck hunt land that adjoined the refuge and we would see deer slipping out of the refuge moving away from hunters. Plenty of good access roads (blocked to vehicles) with gravel. A bicycle is a good tool for getting further back faster.
Skyline is a good spot, but I have never hunted there. If I was looking ot find a place now, I would probably start with Bankhead. Plenty of access, again if you aare willing to walk, along the old logging / fire roads.
