Pinfish trap for catching Bluegill?

Any of you have success using these for bluegill?

I have used something similar with success. Bream seem to really like old hushpuppies that stay together well in the trap.

Not sure of your purpose, but we used them to catch trotline bait, not eating sized bluegill.

Use a block of Styrofoam for bait. They love that white color.

Make a 24” x 24x 24 inch trap. Use a figure 8 for walls and your doors. Offset your doors so they don’t swim straight through.

As someone mentioned artificial bait is the best.


Only legal in a private pond or Toledo Bend as it a gamefish. Toledo has an exception for flathead bait.

You can use live gamefish or goldfish legally as bait. Except you can’t target Reef Fish with perch,bass,etc.
