I see and hear them all the time here in Lincoln Parish. There was a couple calling out to one another earlier today.

I see them all the time around my place in Cut Off. Like someone said earlier they do bring the heavy equipment when they are working on a tree. LOL Seriously, they look about as big as a chicken and have a very distinctive call. Listen to a youtube video of their calls and then listen when outside. You will have a much better chance of hearing them than seeing them in a somewhat suburban area.

I cut down a tree in Slidell several years ago. It was full of worms the size of your thumb. Stacked it up on the side of the road.

Had a woodpecker on that wood pile every day for a week. It was like a buffet.

Haven’t seen one in a few years but have seen 2 in the past week. One at my parents house in Madisonville and one at my house in Bush.
