I vote for #2. As far as this idea I would use the Critical Defense for home defense. The Critical Duty is more for barrier penetration. That is not what you want particularly if you do not live alone in your house.

Yep. Back then (~ 20 years ago) it was "cutting edge," as was the Federal Hydra Shok.
Today's "good" stuff is better. But, as Tom Givens preaches, a good hit with a marginal bullet is better than a marginal hit with a good bullet.
As everyone knows (but it's worth reminding ourselves), none if this stuff is "magic." We still have to get good hits.
