I have a thick pair Redhead merino socks that have held up very well for three years of use. Only Bass Pro item I've ever bought that actually worked.

Altera Prevail Alpaca Wool Socks, 12"
Alpaca wool socks are the way to go if it's cold. Lighter, softer and warmer than wool. They're the best things I've even put on my feet, hands down.

I used to by the rocky Merino Wools and loved them. A couple years ago a coworker turned me on to the Bass Pro Readhead Wools. So far so good. Feet stay warm, they don’t fall down and they are lifetime warranty.
