Old black powder revolver (reproduction) question, for those who know these guns...

Ok, this is not an Uberti or Pietta.
On an impulse I ordered an old, brass-framed 1851 Navy revolver from an online shop. Simpson's, they sell nice stuff, and also some cheaper things at times. I've got a very nice Swiss 1889 rifle, and several percussion revolvers.
They don't appear to clean them at all, they sell as they come into the shop. The revolvers I've already got were in serious need of cleaning, had petrified sludge and old caps in the frame. Everything cleaned up nicely.
My question, about my newest order. Grip frame is marked for MAVI, an Italian company that made stuff in the 60's and early 70's. Looks like a double barrel shotgun from the muzzle (or, alternatively, looks like someone's male package.
Twig and berries... )
That's from a different gun online, but is basically what is on the one I ordered. mine is much more worn.
It has the text "made in Italy" on the barrel, with matching serial to the frame.
What it DOESN'T have, are Italian proof marks or date codes. I've got 2 Piettas, an Armi San Marco, and a Euroarms, several of which are about as old, and they all have those.
What it DOES have, are GERMAN stamps. The Ulm antler proofhouse stamp, the digits "71", and the West German eagle stamp.
Best I can figure, gun was made and sent new to West Germany for sale there, was proofed at Ulm in 1971.
My guess it was sold near a NATO base, to an American soldier; (Rod and Gun Shop, a name I've heard stated on other firearm purchases that way), which is how it eventually came to the US to be sold on consignment here.
Does that sound about right, to those familiar with such things?
