No but some of the best stoves out there are homemade alcohol stoves. I hiked with a 65 year old guy for a month (his 3rd thru-hike) who made a contraption 20 years ago from a green bean can and still used it. I'm just a sucker for convenience. Also, I only use my fuel to bring my water to a boil. That's 90 seconds every morning and 90 seconds every night. A 3.5 ounce fuel canister will last me over a month.

I've got a marmot helium bag and thermarest neo air and I love both. I love my osprey pack. I've spent a lot time/money getting ultralight gear but it was worth it.

I made one out of a beer can. Two friends of mine used one solely while hiking the Washington state portion of the PCT.

I'll see if I can find the site I copied mine from.

I started a thread a few days ago about a wood-gas stove I made. Probably to big for packing. But could be made smaller.

Both my boys are in scouts so we have been experimenting with different cans and designs. We have mad five different one so far.

Cool! It's definitely something that's good to learn.

How much water would you boil in morning and evening?

90 seconds is fast. The alcohol stove I made does two cups in about 8 minutes.

I've hiked a tiny portion of the PCT on the John Muir trail near Yosemite with Drunktigerbaiter. How old are you LSUintheNW? Let's thruhike the PCT man; I've been itching to do it.

That's why I got it. Well that and because of the way everything fits within each other.

I have the GSI pinnacle soloist and my titanium pot will be boiling about that fast. Highly rated and recommended. Very nice setup that's made to take up little space and is very light. My stove fits inside ot as well. I have the Soto OD-1R and weighs 76 grams. The micro regulator is amazing.

I'm 35. I've done several sections through Oregon and I'd love to do the whole thing but I doubt I can getaway for that long.

Eta....I'd like to be able to getaway for 30 days and do the whole Oregon section and then do Washington another time.

Well when you're ready lemme know and I'll drop everything in my life to thru-hike the PCT.... seriously.

For the record, I don't have much going on in my life anyway.

You can charge your ipod, phone and camera. Other things as well but that's all I carry that would need a charge.

I've never carried anything that needed a charge

I guess I should start carrying a phone for emergencies.

phone and camera

ETA: I made phone calls because I had a girlfriend who stuck by me for the entire 6 month journey and I took over 6000 pictures and 2+ hours of video footage.

Definitely! Don't know about here but in Oregon if you have an emergency but don't have a phone to help locate you they can charge you the bill it cost to find you.
