Have the opportunity to pick up a gently used one for about half the retail price. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these? They're made by Liberty. Are they essentially a Liberty safe with Cabela's decals or are they cheaper made for the "big box" store price?

Decals on the door edge all say Liberty, including the lifetime warranty and free warranty transfer.

25 gun with the combination dial is the one I'm looking at possibly getting.

They are just Liberty safes with Cabela's decals put on the door. I think they are nice safes.

agree with LuapGib. I think anything with a Cabelas decal is automatically more $$$. the one you're looking at is prob still cheaper than a new Liberty from Mike Wards

A 25 gun safe gets really small once you start putting stuff in it. Unless your collection will always be only ~10 rifles/shotguns I would look at something bigger, especially if you are going to try to keep other things like ammo and personal items/documents in there. I would look at a 40-64 capacity. As far as brand, all the Liberty/Cannon and big box safes are equally easy to defeat and will burn up if your house burns down, so I would shop price. The only brand advantage I can think of is either Liberty or Cannon, can't remember which one, replaced some safes that got flooded in 2016, which is kinda cool but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

It looks very similar to the colonial line that Liberty sells. My advice would be to call Mike Wards in Baton Rouge and see what his price would be delivered. I would get bigger than 25 unless you never plan on having more than a few long guns in it. I have a colonial 50 and its slap full.

The colonial safe I have has a roll body steel form. The big box stuff is basically thinker sheet metal welded. It is harder to pry open. The locking bolts are better as well. It's not burglar proof by any means but slows them down. One reason to have an alarm system at your house so it limits the time they have to get shite out.
