I’ve got digital nv with an extra ir light on a SBR and it works just fine out to 100yrds. That being said, I’d go thermal if I were you, will prob do so myself at some point down the road

Thermal by far

If you can find best subsonic hunting ammo. I have killed a truckload of hogs with these out to 100 yds.

I'd love a Thermal but will probably get a Sightmark Wraith to start.

Just bought a thermal for my dad to try to control some hogs at our place. I went with a pulsar XG50 and love it. Don’t have much to compare to bc it’s the only one I’ve ever used. It’s expensive for sure at $5999 but it’s legit and held up well shooting a .308. I also invested in a nice tripod, not having one while scanning would be very detrimental. Reading on thermal forums, a lot of folks use a thermal monocular for scanning and have a night vision scope for shooting as they both have different advantages. Thermals are better for spotting/scanning while night vision is better for positive identification of animals.

For clarification, I cannot afford a thermal myself, this was purchased by my dad who’s long since retired and has money to burn!

Killed a 300 lb boar my first night out using it that I never would have seen without it. Going back in two weeks for another try. It’s a lot of fun.

Check out fox optics on YouTube for lots of reviews and tutorials, helped me out a lot.

ETA: starting off I was eyeing the ATN bc of the price but from everything I’ve read and seen on YouTube channels they are junk. They said not to waste your time and pony up a little more.

Pulsar literally this week just announced a new product called the XM30 which is their “cheap” model that actually has a lot of good features and a good processor. I’d check that one out

You tube has a couple videos where each brand looks better. Overall the pulsars seem more clear.

I noticed the XM30 has 5 hrs battery and the thor 4 has 18 hrs

what a dilemma

I don’t really keep up with this market but isn’t an xm30 a monocular and the Thor 4 a scope? Why even compare them?

I was just a little confused because my Pulsar Monocular is also a xm30.

Apparently, Thermion is the rifle scope and Axion is the monocular.

Thermals are better than NV without a doubt. If the budget allows, always go thermal. All a person has to do is scan an area in a fog and you’ll know why
