They seem like solid boats...they are a lot cheaper than comparable counterparts such as Pathfinder, Shearwater and the like too.

Yamaha just released an in-line 4 cylinder F200. If I go this route, I might try to get it with that extra HP as I not only fish Louisiana but also fish the Destin Pass area (near shore cobia fishing).

Delta,
That would be perfect to do but how would you get them to out the 200 on there if its max HP rating is 150?

Supposedly they can work around that...so I am told. Who knows though?

The only problem I see is warranty issues that might come up with the boat and saying it wont be covered because it exceeds max HP. And also when you go to get it insured i they think they ask about that as well. But could be wrong its been a few years since I bought mine. Maybe somebody here knows more recently and knows better. Would definitely look into it though before signing. But if you can do it by all means go for it. Would make that boat feel much more alive.

I had a blazer bay I bought with a 150 because of $$$ and got a really good deal on it. Always felt the boat had so much more to offer and seemed sluggish. Sold that motor and bought a loose 225 from boat show and had it installed before boat was a year old. Was much happier.

Apparently, this is more of an insurance issue than a rule issue. The federal laws on mandate that a HP max be supplied for monohulls under 20 feet in length. Manufacturers just do it anyway because many states have more stringent rules.

The Nautic Star 2200 Sport is the same hull as the 2200 Tourney Edition which is rated for 250 HP.

I think Nautic Star can give you a waiver for insurance purposes if you want a larger motor on the Sport (although I have not verified the existence of this letter).

In short, the main thing is insurance. You can still get it, but it may cost you more. For me, this makes me wonder if it is worth it.

I don't think it make much difference at all. Just call whoever you plan to insure with and ask them. Tell them that same thing and probably no big deal at all. It will save you a bunch of aggravation and hassle to just get it now when you buy boat versus having to try and sell it and buy another motor down the road. One of those things that you will always be second guessing yourself if you don't and you will not be happy.

BTW how much difference in price is there between the 150 and 200?
