Period around new moon for offshore sportfishing. Never saw a lot of difference bottom fishing. Full moon and 3 or so days before and after are straight out for me when sportfishing offshore. Too much personal anecdotal evidence for me to waste my time. There is some science, apparently, behind this....full moon allows bait to spread and fish become more dispersed. Already too much water to fish in several thousand lifetimes, add scattered bait schools and the math don't math.
More or less the same thing for me inshore but depends on time of year...summer and night fishing inshore doesn't seem to matter quite as much but that wasn't the case, for me, when dock lights were less prevalent. Dock lights have more or less removed the moon from the equation at night in the summer...toss a white bait under a dock with a submerged dock light and something is going to eat that white bait. Every time, almost every light.
Bream fishing is definitely a full moon thing for me. They bed from April to November in my area (May is prime time) and the first full moon in May is not to be missed. Never paid enough attention to moon phases in freshwater to notice any other noticeable dfferences...I fish when I can.
I won't bother to fish for pelagics on a full moon though....way too much personal experience to know its just not wirth the effort...
