I need some tree rat hunting lessons. I want to take my boys but don't want to have nothing to teach em.

My steps are:
Load gun
Walk around
Shoot squirrels
Pick up squirrel and save one for the dog to chew on
Eat

Pretty much all there is to it.

Mines even easier now. Walk through woods with thermal imaging scope. Locate small heat signatures. Focus in and terminate. If one happens to bark, he dies even faster. Rabbit in thickets? Dead.

First, find limb chicken habitat.
Then refer to the above steps.

I feel the same about paperwork. It's like still having fricking homework. Doesn't help that I procrastinate.

hmmmm sounds pretty easy. Think I'm gonna give it a try Tuesday or wed evening with my boys.
Gun of choice?
The boys will be following not shooting this hunt.
need for stealth?
I have a couple of 22lr, a 20 gauge and a 12 gauge. If shotgun, what size shot?
ETA: I FREAKING HATE PAPERWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd go with .22 but 20 gauge works too

20 gauge with number 6. I hunt with a .22 but it'll be easier for your boys with the shotgun. I usually go to where I know there's a bunch and sit down before light and wait. After I bust their asses, I'll ease through the woods listening for one to bark or movement. Then home in an exterminate.

I'll use number 4steel shot I have left over from duck season in my 12 gauge. They're easier to find in the meat. I f#$king hate biting a pellet.

boys are only up to a 22 single shot savage rascal right now. Not sure I want them shooting up in the air with it yet.
Posted on 10/7/13 at 11:55 pm to Bleeding purple
They big enough for the 20? That's what I started with at age 6 or 7.

Yes.

And I always make sure they're dead. No matter the shot unless I behead one. I stomp those bastards heads. Once you have one come back to life in your jacket, you don't ever make that mistake again.
