Any of y'all ever hunt this? I've squirrel hunted a few times for scouting and done a couple late season deer hunts. Haven't had much deer action, but see quite a bit of sign. Most times I've been, doesn't seem pressured much like I thought it would. Just wondering if any of y'all Mississippi fellas have had any luck hunting it?

Lots of hogs, at least on the LA side.

My SO was fishing on Pearl River there and watched 2 gators take down a full grown doe.

So there are deer. And competition.

I bow hunted it on the regular up until 2009 when I moved away. I killed several does and a couple of okay bucks over the years but nothing spectacular. It has/had a decent deer herd but so much of it is hard to access due to the water.

A small pirouge was a great tool to access areas near the treatment plant and off Rock Rd. Also don't overlook the buffer between the access rd and the Trace. Its narrow and most people wouldn't consider hunting it.

I’m surprised you had luck in that small strip. I’ve avoided it for that reason. Access has been a problem. I’ve tried trudging through the swamp area but like you say water. I haven’t hunted much on the other side of the treatment plant. May check it out this week.

I assume you can still hunt that area. Its wider in some places than you'd think and the Trace line used to be pretty well marked.

Had some luck along transition areas and small creeks or drains that traversed from the Trace onto the WMA.

Good Luck.

Yep. It’s narrow but the good thing is it’s easy to scout.
