not here..their way of life..thats how they were raised and taught to survive..

now, the Cane truck drivers on the other hand...i work on trains and those trucks have no respect what so ever for a train and think we can stop on a dime...we come so close to hitting them every year and usually hit at least one each year..i haven't seen it happen yet (knock on wood) and dont look forward to being a part of it..

I grew up in a family of farmers. I absolutely love the farming life. But out of all the farmers I know, both friends and family, I have never met a poor farmer. Such a thing does not exist these days. Every farmer I know always has 2 new vehicles, a 250k+ brick home, a million dollars worth of equipment that has been written off on taxes but will be sold for cash when they retire, and sends their kids to private school. And I am happy for them, as I was one of those privleged kids. However, as an adult looking back, the subsidies are stupid and destroy any chance at failure. That's as uncapitalistic as it gets. Way too much in subsidies gets handed out.

I dont think anyone actually hates farmers, you have people such as stout for exapmle that go on aand on about subsides and how its welfare and his great grandaddy was such a stand up guy he didnt take any bla bla blah
And that any farmer who gets subsdized for anything they produce is same as a person on welfare.. .. thats ridiculous... I know it and you know it.

My dad is poormouthing sob.. however he's the one at 60 gets to go borrow a ton a fricking money eveyyear to make a crop with.
To say there is no risk...thats idiotic...
I cant speak for your balance sheet or anyone elses.. Very few people in this country have to produce something and have to turn around and ask what will you give me for it???
Not only that,, at that with those pics,, all inputs had been put into the crop..

In todays farming world you do the things the right way or you go busted.. period.
Cost is too high.. everything from JD green, to seed, to chemical, to land rent, to deisel fuel.

Agriculture is IMO the best thing this counrty has left to offer.

Not sure what you're asking. A bale is a unit of measurement. It's around 480 lbs of lint cotton...

Are you talking about a module?

Or a round bale that's in the yellow wrap?

edited because that pic is huge.

gotta disagree just from experience here. my whole immediate family's value of cars (3) is equal to one decent car, new. House is half of what you said. This is the norm for my area. Only ones besides that are the ones with oil money

Roughly what is the yield (lbs) of cotton to the acre? I drive all over the state and the agriculture always has me wondering. When I end up at a farmer's home I always try to get a couple of questions in. I'm slowly increasing my understanding...

Now if I could just get ya'll to leave weeds around the edges for the quail...

ETA, I was referring to the long square bales, the ones about 2/3 size of a 18 wheeler, flat bed trailer

Everyone defends welfare who receives it. Theirs is just better than others, and not costing the taxpayer in their own eyes.

I betcha most consider themselves to be small govt conservatives and bitch about welfare queens too.

We're satisfied with 900 lbs/acre, but strive to get in that 1100-1250 range.

I wish somebody would shed some light on this statement I made in the deleted thread, and earlier in this thread:

I really do want to know the outside perception of what percentage of inputs that subsidies cover.

Yeah, those are modules. Usually about 15-17 bales in them, but they weigh more because they haven't been ginned. The 480-500 lbs in a bale is what's left after ginning.

2 bale per acre is what you want.
which is 1000 lbs.. start making a little money after that...

Just FYI... last year we got $1.08 a lb for some of our cotton.. right now cotton is selling for around 65 cents.
You cant make enough cotton to pay the bills at 65 cents..
