strictly recreational boating, small boat. It’s a flat bottom duck boat I can get in just about anything with a foot of water or so
if anyone is familiar with the area I’m looking for some pointers on places to explore, wet a line, look at nature, etc. I can launch at either place (I live in Hammond). Also I’d prefer not to get lost so if there’s a good GPS map for the area let me know please. I need to buy a new handheld anyway
Thx!!

Manchac area is pretty active during the summer months. You can ride around north pass to stay out of south pass and explore around there. Middle bayou/long canal are pretty cool. There is a sand bar right out of Tangipahoa river that a lot of people go to. Sun buns and Fuel dock are a nice stop for food and drinks. The WMA is pretty cool to explore, but you would want a mud motor for most of it.
Ruddock is really cool area. There are some really nice cuts between the lake and the bridge, but be careful with an outboard going in them. I've gotten in some bad spots even with a long tail.
You should have good cell service all around either area. I've always just used google maps on my phone and it's been fine.
As far as fishing, that whole area is a gar hole. People will say you can catch bass under the highrise which is true, but it's tough. If I were wanting to fish I'd go somewhere else. Too many places within an hour of that area that are way better for fishing. Unless you want to set out gar or catfish jugs. Then you're in the right place.

The Tangipahoa River just got re-opened. Lee's Landing marina is a free, public launch. It's about a 15 minute ride through the swamp (most all of it is Joyce WMA) before you get to where the camps start. Another 5 minute ride will get you to Lake Pontchartrain, where the sandbar for swimming is (out of the mouth of the river to the right).
I grew up down there, and still have a camp on the water. Spend most weekends there, but not so much now during hunting season.
