Let's discuss private gun sales via the Internet.

It's always been my impression that any firearm mailed must be received by an FFL (unless mailing to yourself).
Well after further research, the ATF website states:
So long guns can be mailed in state to a Non FFL address. Now how does the actual act of selling fall into this. Was having a discussion with someone who said the mailing is fine, but it's the actual exchange of money for the weapon via Internet that makes it illegal.
Does anyone have any info that clears this up?

quote:
"A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State."

If a state allows private gun sales between 2 residents of that state it doesn't matter how the money is transferred. Mail, internet, bank transfer, you could even discretely use PayPal which I have done a couple of times.

Agree with swanny, I have used pay pal a few times to receive and send money for gun sales. I used western union once as well. I have used UPS and FEDEX both for shipping guns, never a problem. I alwaays break down my long guns into 3 or more parts. I have shipped 2 pistols as a whole and shipped one broken down because the new owner thought I had too.
