Those 4-6 acre hollows with nwsg don't happen to be remnant prairie by chance?
nah, they used to be hay pens and corral areas back when we had cows

I'd consider planting some fruit tree orchards in a clearing or two. May be your best best for early season, though it may be a couple of years

I started planting sawtooth oak varieties 10 years ago. Apparently the demand for crabapple trees in Ga is unbelievable as if you don’t get your order in as soon as they are made available you’ll be SOL.

We plant soybeans in the spring, you'll have to do something to keep the deer out until they get 8-12" or they'll mow them down.
Plant Iron Clay or Cow peas mixed with oats and wheat in mid October.
As already mentioned have a soil test and put down recommended products or you'll be throwing money down the drain.

If you were a little more northeast i'd say chestnut trees. We planted some about 8-10yr ago, and just started producing chestnuts. We have deer bypassing the food plots, corn, and ricebran to get at the chestnuts!! Hardly any pics everywhere else, but cameras on the chestnuts are filling cards up. Bad thing is that hogs like them too. You will have to kill them off, or run them off bc they will fight the deer for them.
