Kayak question

I just bought my first kayak earlier today. I'm very new to this and had a few questions. Besides a life jacket, are there any restriction, regulations, or requirements that I need for my kayak? Thanks, any help would be great.

if you get a motor, trolling included, you'll need to register it

What did you get?
As KR said, the only other "legal" necessity is registration with any motor. Also, for clarification, you dont have to be wearing the PFD, just have it in the boat.

ok thanks. I just plan on using a paddle with mine. Just didn't want to get out there and get a ticket.

You should be good with just a pfd but I believe this is dependent on the waterway you're in. I'm not sure if the two mile rule for a visual distress signal applies to a kayak but I would imagine it would, it at least should more than any other watercraft IMO.

I ended up getting the new ascend (12 ft) at bass pro. Im a beginner and am trying to get a hobby. I have a lot of days off during the week, and kayak fishing has always sounded awesome. Any tips for a newbie?

don't forget a tow rope, a light and a whistle. All are small, easily stored and can save your life and kayak.

Check out the official kayak thread in the stickied post, get on the roster for the OB kayak trip in May.

The only things I bring on my kayak are my paddle, 2 rods, and miller lite
Edit: sorry I realize this doesn't come close to answering your question

I like to drink some beer, but I honestly have never drinking in a boat. What are the open beverage laws in a Yak?
