Anyone know of any solid areas to take my kayak out around Houston and set a hook or two? Obviously I’ll have to go south but I’m just curious if some areas are better than others. I’m even debating making a trip to Matagorda soon.

If you want to fish freshwater give Fayette County Lake a shot. It takes us about an 1:10min from katy to the West.

Really good bass fishing, if you need any help with details and places to hit up let me know.

Is this a good time of the year to give that a shot? I’ve always been a saltwater (specifically trout) fisherman mixed in with the occasional freshwater trip but I knew how to fish the basin. I’m sure it’s a different ball game over there.

Yes its a smaller lake that is a cooling lake for a power plant so the water is heated. The spawn happens in late Jan early Feb there but the lake is loaded with quality fish because it has a slot limit on it. Fish between 14-24" have to be thrown back.

Watermelon Red soft plastics / Square bill CB's are really good on this lake.

There are 2 ramps/parks to put in.. decent amount of timber and shore lines to fish close to these parks that hold quality fish and are easy to get to in a kayak.

Its a little further but i lover Bueschner State Park for the kayak. Also try lake raven at huntsville state park. Fished there a month ago in terrible conditions and did well.

I go down to Christmas Bay. There are a few spots to put in off the highway. I've also gone to the Brazoria Wildlife Refuge and fished Salt Lake but haven't had much success there.

I've driven to Matagorda once and enjoyed it but it was a lot for one day.

I Agree with the Fayette county lake. But just make sure there isn't too much wind blowing. It sits on the top of a hill pretty much and the wind can limit the places you can fish on Kayaks. If you go I can give you some spots as well within easy reach of either boat ramp.

I see baws in kayaks all the time on the North shoreline of East Bay. Guess they put in somewhere at Anahuac NWR. Also see quite a few on the other shoreline over by Stingaree Marina and by Rollover Pass on the Boliver side. Also lots of kayak and wading down at the Pocket.

Lake Woodlands also has some decent bass fishing. I did pretty well there for a couple of years until I moved away.

if there is a slight breeze blowing I don't even go out there in a boat.

Thank y’all for the input fellas! Doesn’t look like I’ll be able to go with the weather on Saturday anyway. I might take a chance on Sunday though.
