TJ = True Jeep
Models are typically X, Sport and Rubicon. Rubicons have Dana 44 rear ends and possibly lockers. X and Sport can have 44s as an option. You can tell by looking at the rear axle. If it is a plastic plug for the filler - it isn’t a 44. 44’s aren’t that necessary unless you plan to do serious off roading or run 35+ tires around. Unlimiteds are the above versions with an extended body.
Have two now - 2001 and 2005. I6. Fun to drive - easy to park - easy to work on - capable off road. Both 120k+ miles.
If buying one, I’d look underneath where the frame and body come together for rust, underneath for leaks from the oil pan or tranny, turn it on and off about three times just in case the check engine light was reset by the seller without fixing. Generally avoid greater than 3 inch lifts - host of other parts that need to be replaced when adding a higher lift.

05 TJ Rubicon 6 cylinder with 130k - lots of add ons listed.
Buy this and never look back, only thing better would be if it was an unlimited.

Mine has 44s with 4.56 and lunchbox locker. 1997 4.0 stick. Sucks for highway use, but will crawl a wall. Goes farther than rangers and way more reliable.
