Up to a point. When it graduates from a minor annoyance to something grounding out the CAN-bus high signal and giving you a vehicle that will crank but not start, then you get to spend some real money. How do I know? I'm about to find out this weekend.

Vehicle dependent. but on mine there was no indication that was noticed when he went to get out of the truck. No chimes, I guess because of the key being removed. Radio was rarely on so that wasn't a give away.

On the CJ-7, the radio was OFF and was draining the battery.

As mentioned, it was a defective radio.

Replaced it and problem solved.

You already have some good suggestions, but This is another option if you still can't figure it out. assuming your jeep is not covered.
