Nope, it's a 56mm Objective lens. And I would not buy it. There is no reason to put that big arse thing on any rifle you would use for down here.

Dave I'm going to play contrarian for a minute. Dylan may want a rig to hunt with in Texas or out west. I maintain my stance that the scope is a great deal at $500.

Fair enough. But 56mm is pretty much overkill for any practical purpose. There are a lot of long shots taken with 50mm lenses and smaller.

If anything, I would flip it and buy something more practical.

I agree with you, 56mm lens is too big. 50mm lens with a 30mm tube is idea.

Objective lens is what I meant, I knew the tube was 30mm I was posting from church and not thinkimg.

I don't only hunt down here. I hunt in Mississippi, Louisiana, and am trying to do one hunt off somewhere each year. Last year was my first year doing that and I went to Kentucky and could of really used a bigger scope.

If you are hunting anywhere that has restrictions on rack size, you want a big scope

56mm is huge. It's overkill.

Why? Having a 56 or 50mm has nothing to do with being able to judge racks or age. Besides you wouldn't shoot a deer late at a place like that. You should be 100% positive of what you are shooting.

Never hunted with a 56 but saw a huge increase when I went from 40 to 50 then again from a 1" tube to a 30 mm, land owners are pretty tight where I hunt and I want every advantage I can get ... And plenty of 300 yard shot opportunities

Well yeah that's a huge difference.

You should be looking for higher quality glass and use binoculars to see what's on their head.

No, not better than Swarovski. When you are using a scope of that quality a 50mm is plenty.

Go big or go home baw.

I can tell you this: when I started I had a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster. The hunt was over at 5:15. This is the question you ask yourself: is it worth an extra hundred bucks to be able to hunt for another 20 minutes every evening? I understand you. Hunt in the swamps and the deer aren't that far away, but I'll gladly pay $100 for 5-10 extra minutes where I hunt. We all know dark thirty is when the bruisers come out to play.

Hmmmm.... That probably has a lot to do with it. Personally, I don't even go as big as 50mm. I would rather mount the scope as low as possible. You've got to be a godamn giraffe to get your head up high enough to look through a 56mm scope. If you're shooting steel from a bench at 1000 yards, sure, get a 56mm. But if you are shooting 300 yards in fields, it's not even close to being needed.
