I did when I installed a set by myself. Cut and frame the opening. Put attic door/steps in attic. Then install you temp boards at each end of the opening to hold it in place. Climb back into attic, put it in place, and shim/attach.

No, way I was taught you don't need temp boards. Trim out the stairway on the ground (18ga crown staples), pick it up on both sides by the edge of the trim, walk up ladder (making sure 15ga trim gun with at least 2" nails is hooked to tool belt) push it into the hole with the hinge end in front of you and snug to the framing, blast in nails from casing to frame. The stairway will hold well enough to open the door and start running bolts/screws. My way isn't for the typical DIY'r though and you have to do some good prep work ahead of time.
