If you’re going to get the “subcompact” (really more compact) double stack M&P you might as well get the “compact” model (which is really more of a mid sized). You get 3 more rounds for not much more grip and a little bit more barrel/sight radius. If you’re set on that size I’d get the shield since it’s a bit more versatile and can be concealed in more outfits.
Personally, if I were getting a handgun today I’d be getting the Walther PPQ45. Been on my list for a while.
