It's truly amazing what those marines and army infantry endured during WWII

I was at the WWII museum yesterday and got to talk to a guy who jumped on DDay with the 82nd Airborne, 505 Able Company. Told me the story of a three day battle they fought at this small bride outside St Mere Eglise. Was cool as hell.

I almost became a historian instead of a MD. I almost did a double major at LSU, but was a few foreign language course short of the history degree. Wasn't about to take 3 semesters of advanced Latin just to say I had the degree though.
Junior year I helped a veteran of the 5th Rangers write his memoirs. It was awesome. That was one of the most grizzly men I met. He was about 86 and he probably still could have kicked my arse.

If you come out to Honey Island tomorrow, my Garand is from 1941. I've only shot it about 8-16 times. It's mainly for the historical value.

You ever had a good ol' country arse whoopin'?
ETA: Mrs Cove's pow pow brought his 1911 back too. Had it in WWII and Korea. The grips are allegedly made with plexiglass from a German plane and have pics of his wife and kids under them. He was a Captain in AAA in Europe and an Infantry Colonel in Korea. I will try to get a pic of it someday. Fascinating man.
