He was approximately 12-14 inches long.

Concur, Dekay's Brown, nonvenomous, feeds on slugs and such.

Thanks again for the info. I was more worried about my small dog because he roots through the leaves where I raked the snake up. He was very calm though, never seemed agitated as I moved him around.
