I'm going tuesday and the weather calls for rain. I'm I wasting my time?

Not sure where you are, but in NELA, hunting in the rain this time of year is gold.

hunting in the rain is the tits and can be very effective if its not raining hard

It's never a waist of time when you are able to get in the woods and hunt a little. Deer will move in the rain if its not raining hard or storming. I don't mind hunting in the rain at all, if you have the right gear. Remember a bad day hunting is better then a good day at work any day.

do I need to protect my rifle or just clean it well afterwards?

Most bucks will get moving to refresh their scrapes and rubs right after the rain stops. That is when you really need to pay attention.

Definitely clean your rifle.
