How well does root stimulator work?

I planted 12 crape myrtles and 12 wax myrtles on Sunday. The nursery recommended that I water them with root stimulator for the first couple months. I haven't used it before and since I paid so much for the plants, I figured I should take their advice.

Does it actually work? I'm assuming I should use this for the first couple months THEN switch to a regular tree fertilizer after, is that correct?

My mom is a big believer in it, but I thought it was more for getting cuttings to root. Not newly planted bushes.

It ain't going to hurt...

I've used the powder mixed in soil when transplanting. One of those things that's almost impossible to tell if it did any good unless you put one without side by side.

Can't hurt?

my grandfather was mixing his own root simulator before it was widely available. basically fish oil and water. Pur a good gall on or 2 in the hole, slice some of the roots and put your new plant in it.

we always use it when we plant new stuff, seem to always have pretty good results, is it because the stuff works or not, who knows?
