Internet will have to be over phone lines, too far for Comcast to run mine on fiber optic. And the long distance degrades an already poor signal so my internet is painfully slow. May have to bite the bullet and get satellite internet but I've heard terrible things about that.

Have friends with similar situations that have found using their cellphone as a internet "hotspot", or just using phone or tablet for internet is vastly better than the satellite internet service, but it will depend on the cell service provider in your area.

We had a CSpire hotspot for about a year and it wasn't very good. We ended up with exede satellite and that's worlds better. We have a metal roof and cell service is nonexistent in the house.

I'll have a pond next to my house that's already in place and listed as a draft site for the fire dept already. Wonder if that will suffice

It will help quite a bit if the fire dept. has the equipment to pull from it. That's option #2 after the hydrant.

Trash is easy. I haul it up to the road on the Kubota once a week. Not a big deal .
Someone mentioned a gravel driveway. That's what we have (clay gravel) and I maintain it using a bionic blade about once a month. It only gets out of shape after a lot of rain. If you have a tractor take a look at the bionic blade. It works wonders for driveway maintenance.

If a house is more than 1000' from a hydrant, how much more insurance premium (%)!does that generally mean?

I’m not sure as there are no hydrants in my area. There are several ponds and lakes that are draft sites within a mile of me. Our FD is strictly volunteer. My premium is 125 a month through State Farm.
