I might have a dog with HCS. Liver showed up like honeycomb and she's got calloused lesions on her nose. Family vet wasn't sure after seeing the blood work and ultrasound so he's sending us to a internal medicine specialist in Nashville at Blue Pearl.

We go see the internal medicine vet on 3/23.

My question to the OB...has anyone ever had a dog with this disease? If it's true...it sure looks bad. I'm just trying to get ready for the inevitable. I know lots of people don't believe in praying for dogs/animals...but when they are like your kids (we don't have kids) you still gotta ask. Thanks folks.

You mention calloused lesions on the nose. What about on the paw pads? I can't recall having seen any HCS dogs without paw pad lesions. How old is this dog? Can you post pics of the lesions??? That would be helpful.

Do you have an email you can post here? If you get confirmation of the disease I can send you some helpful info. You've probably read by now that there is a major deficiency in amino acids which is why we see such a variety of problems - I have a homecooked supplement recipe that has helped some dogs for at least a while.

I’ll do this tomorrow. I will get as much info as possible for you. To our best knowledge there are no lesions on the pads but my wife and I had already decided to look tonight a bit closer. We are following the same thought process as you state. The dog in question is on record as being 7 according to the vet’s best guess, but she could be as old as 9 or 10. She was a “road dog/stray” that our vet’s sister found and my wife begged for us to adopt. We’ve had her 5-7 years (that’s why we say she’s older). Thanks for responding!

Here are 2 pictures of the lesions. The pads are clear with no lesions.

I lost my puppy (2yo) this past Christmas. He was my buddy and went everywhere with me. He spent 2 weeks in outpatient care. He would come home for the night and return every morning for IV and fluids. His liver eventually failed him. The wife and I cried with him on the floor at the vet's office on his last night. I know your pain and I'll be praying.

Thanks. Your thoughts and prayers are definitely appreciated.

Boots was the dog I didn't want. I was on travel to KSC working 12 hour days but my wife kept calling me and begging me to take her since the pharmaceutical rep she worked with was about to take her to the pound because she had chewed up her husband's favorite boots (thus her name). She called me like 4 or 5 times before I caved.

When I got home the dog literally jumped up into my face...I had to grab her by the throat and put her down on the carpet....I made her realize I was the master of the house....and ever since, we haven't had one misunderstanding or issue. She's been a model dog...especially for getting her into our house when she was like 4 or 5 years old....now I wouldn't know what to do without her.

They are not kids they are pets. Definitely a part of the family though.
