I see in this pic that you are ready to make a hasty retreat if necessary!

Oh yeah. I don't touch him often. I was drinking beer and it was more of a "Get your camera ready, watch this!" moment.

Yeah, the new bull has that about feed. I close the gate and fill the troughs before letting them in. He'll run you over with a sack in your hand to get it away from you.

Once he's eating, you can ease up and touch him. He has what he wants at that point.

My sister is an event photographer on the side, so I've picked up a lot from her. I also have read a few articles specifically about photographing cattle.

The perfect pose is from is side, looking at you, closest rear leg positioned farther back than the rear leg on the other side, head up and alert. The best time is early morning or late evening with the sun at your back more level with the horizon than straight over head to light them up. That's the basics...

Eta: They're animals, so they don't pose well by command. You have to take a lot of pictures to get that one good one. It's a lot easier with iphones compared to the old days of 35mm you had to develop to find out what you got.

never try to touch or pet any of my bulls on the head

This. Both brangus bulls I have were hand fed to about 20 months and very gentle. can scratch their jaws but any pressure on their head and they are pushing back. Hard!

Have a motley face 6yr old cow that likes to be pet. When she is done and wants feed she'll put her head in your chest hard enough to knock you down. She learned to get aggressive from scared kids. Give a kid a firm head butt and he'll drop that feed bucket every time. Keep a broom handle close by to whack those noses when they get too rough
