Having my lawn "top dressed" and zoysia placed in a large area of my lawn

The landscaper said zoysia z-52 is the way to go because it is more shade tolerant (this area is under a few large oak trees). I don't know what the other zoysia species in my yard is. Anyone know if this is true? Who knows their grass? The interwebz just said moderate shade. It is expensive, and I don't want that beautiful grass to die. TIA.

I've been trying to get a price and name for top dressing for weeks with no luck. How much money for how much land, if you don't mind? Also, location and company name?

It will take over your yard!

Top dressing? That's just soil.
The house I bought was what appears to be all sand for dirt with sod thrown on top. I need to start laying some dirt if I ever want decent grass.

"Top dressing" is fertilizing in farm talk.

Gotcha. I'm just a sophisticated redneck. I can drive a tractor but you don't want me to plant a field.

.5 acre. 1 yd of clean topsoil is $40. The pallett of zoysia is $225. They're having to saw some roots in the area, should take 8-10 hours. I'm giving them $300 for labor.

Save the labor cost and do yourself.

Zoysia is a badass grass. You will be pleased.
My yard is St. Aug and Zoysia and the Z is slowly taking over. I don't mind.

I hope you have good luck, but I have never seen any kind of grass survive under a large oak tree...

Call you local golf courses.

I only get 3-4 hours, maybe even less, direct sunlight in my backyard. I tried sodding ultimate flora zoysia that supposedly only needs 3 hours of sun, and that shite never thought about rooting.
I was playing golf one day, and there was the thickest, lushest grass growing in places that never see a second of direct sunlight. I asked the groundskeeper and he said it was texas-kentucky hybrid bluegrass. Its supposed to be more drought/heat tolerant and grows well in shade.
Ive been seeding the hell out of my yard with a fescue/texas hybrid bluegrass and its doing pretty well. If my dog would calm down, I think it will be great. Maybe try that out. Zoysia is awesome, but it aint gona grow worth a shite in the shade.

It's a gamble. I have about a 30' diameter pine bark bed surrounding the trees. The grass will be planted around that bed.

Checked that area this morning. It should have sun until noon. I might be good.

where'd you pick up some of that texas-kentucky hybrid bluegrass seed?

I got it from outsidepride.com. They have a bunch of different stuff. I got the combat extreme southern zone.
