DAMN! According to the serial #, that bad boy is a VERY early model...

You know about the issues with frame flexing and cracking with the early models, huh?

Does your slide-stop cut out look like the first or second pic below? First??? Not good... Second??? you're good to go!

You just took that bad boy apart frantically, praying it wasn't a "closed" hole, huh?

Can't wait to see your reports from your first shoot with it. You're going to LOVE it!

ETA: I love my Stainless, but I have to say, the blued looks bad arse too! Of course, all D.E.'s look bad arse, amirite?

LOL!!!!

So according to my research, the Serial Numbers that start with DE are the first editions. So yours being a DE04XXX means it's pretty damn early!

Mine's a DS12XXX

Only way to get the actual production date is to call Colt. They have no literature that gives "born on dates" for Serial Numbers for any guns made after 1985. I tried to call them today. Was on hold for 20 mins and hung up. I'll try again tomorrow.

Yep... First year of the DE's production.

Did you seriously not know any of this stuff???

I knew they had frame issues but I was really excited to get one!

If this is a 1987 wouldn't it have the closed hole for the slide stop?

They corrected the issue VERY VERY fast. Supposedly, to find one with a closed hole is EXTREMELY rare.
