I drink beer while fishing and cleaning the boat, fish, and gear. Typically, I average 4-6 beers during that 3-6 hour stretch, but I do notice that the more alcohol I consume the more cumbersome the cleaning becomes which is why I keep the beer intake to 4-6.
I have to be honest with you, fishing and boating is dangerous enough before alcohol is introduced into the picture. You are never wrong to set guidelines for what can and can’t be done on YOUR BOAT! After all, your life could be in the other person’s hands and vice versa. If your buddy drinks to extent that you are describing I would talk to him about it first and if he has a problem with it then don’t take him fishing anymore. It something silly to lose a friendship over but it’s better than losing your life.
After reading some of your other posts in this thread it seems like your friend struggles to control his alcohol consumption. Maybe you could skip the fishing/drinking talk and go for the alcoholism talk. If his successive drinking is impacting his occupational, family, or social life, or any combonation of the aforementioned, I would definitely have a talk with him about rehab.

I think I am going to have that talk with him. It is not going to be fun, but he will see the big picture eventually. He has a good wife and 3 kids.
