I have a safe in the garage. Two dehumidifiers; one rod, one peet. Going on six years with no issues.

Garages are not very hard to get into. Do you have an alarm system or camera for the garage?
You can overcome the rust issues but theft seems a real threat. Needs to be bolted to floor. Bolted to wall can just cut studs in wall back a truck in and take the safe wall studs still attached.

I had one in shed with no dehumidifier… disaster… retains moisture… I moved it in climate control…
