they don't run to feeders in East Texas like they do in West Texas

I've hunted a spot North of San Angelo a few times and the feeder really is like a dinner bell. You can see them coming down the hill sides in a little line just after the feeder goes off. I think feeding all year long is the best way to keep deer at your feeder. I know guys that dont start putting out corn till the season is right around the corner. We used to use feeders but we got away from it some time ago. I've been just setting up on travel corridors and in oak flats for the last few years. I'm thinking that with my kids getting older I'm going to start feeding again just to get them exposed to hunting and give them a better chance of seeing a deer.

Gravity is for protein. Spinners are for corn.
Fence your feeders with 4ft hog wire and t posts to keep the hogs out. Coons don't eat enough to make a difference and they keep the pen clean of old feed.

My problems are that I have NEVER seen a deer come running to a feeder.

That's LA hunting for you. I gave up on hunting LA/MS a few years back. Do yourself a favor, head down to S TX where the problem becomes keeping the feeders full so there's enough to feed the number of deer coming to the pen.
