Mostly ducks, would like sat maps and topography would be a nice bonus. Want compass as well.

Would continue to just use my phone but it has been so damn cold my battery is draining in about 2 hours with nothing even on.

Any suggestions?

honestly, you are talking about a pretty damn robust GPS...best bet might be to just buy an auxiliary battery for your phone and keep using that...

I have thought about that as well. May just buy some type of insulate pouch to keep it in. Just don't want to have to dig under jacket/waders to have to get to phone.

Anyone use the Garmin GPSMap 64st?

I just got the 64st for Christmas. I've used it a few times for kayak fishing and love it. I think they all come with a Free one year subscription to Birdseye which is a program that allows you to download satellite imagery of any area you want and transfer it to your gps. It has a compass and other feature like the ability to mark spots, geocache, and has programs that find the nearest cities and lodges/inns

I'm outdated on what's out there, but make sure it has/uses electronic compass. Without compass, at least it used to be this way, your map/bearings are not live unless you are moving. I was showing someone around in the swamp and marking with their GPS, and that threw me for a while until I figured the compass must be turned off (conserves battery). Looked in the menus where it is in mine, and it wasn't there. Got home and researched it, and that model didn't have a compass. So it was pretty useless for being on foot, moving slow (swamp)and stopping. As soon as you would stop, the map would stay stationary and not adjust/rotate as you changed your physical heading. At that time, there were more models without compass than there were with it. So again, a big priority to me is compass feature, and I always advise others to get one with that feature.
