I've had a .260 since I was 11; I'm 22 now and I still shoot it. My little brother had a 7mm-08. Get the 7mm-08. It has a much better selection of cartridges than the .260 or .243, kicks the same as the .260, and has better ballistics.

Leagues better than the .243 in every single possible way. Don't get a .243
I killed the hell out of some deer with a .243 when I was a kid. Could drive nails with that rifle.
Wish I was that accurate today.

.260 Remington
Bad arse caliber but it has a good kick to it. I got the model 7 though and that probably explains it. I would get him one of 3 calibers all in a model 700: .243, .260. or 7mm 08.
The .243 has killed many a bean field buck and is a pleasure to shoot. Bullet placement is the key and the .243 will drop em easily at 300 yards if you know how to shoot.

Well, I started with a 270 when I was little. It sucked for a while.
Now my go to gun is a 260 remington. I dont really hunt though.
I can tell you my 260 with a brake doesnt really move when I pull the trigger, and Im not shooting some pansy arse hunting round either.
If you are that worried about the recoil, get a muzzle brake. I dont think Ill ever own another rifle without one.
