Two-strokes are simple creatures. If the compression meets minimum spec and you don't see and melted aluminum, then put in new plugs and keep using the engine.

Since you rely on this engine daily, if the compression is inadequate or irregular, my opinion is that you should inspect/resurface the cylinders, and install new pistons, rings, wristpin bearings and gaskets.

If you wind up rebuiling the top-end, also inspect/rebuild the cooling system.
That is what I was alluding to when you said it had been run in the oil spill. Dunno if it was run in suspended oil, or just floating oil


Eta: I am not an expert either. Just connecting random dots. I've worked on mostly air cooled engines, and car engines. Only been inside maybe 10 boat motors
