Ok so tried running my 17500 generac today. After charging the battery I hit the starter and it cranked up and sounded like it was going to run of the stand then shut down a second later.

Anyone konw what can cause this?

Did you leave fuel in it since the last time you ran it and if so, how long? Do you close the fuel valve after shutting it off every time?

the fuel valve is shut off and the carb run dry before leaving it til the next time I run it.

There is gas that stays in the tank but i used some last week for my four wheeler and it runs fine

Generators and ATV's are completely different animals. ATV has a much more complicated fuel system to deal with transient throttle while the generator's is simple and optimized for steady-state running. Drain all of the fuel you can from the generator (including the fuel bowl under the carb), partially refill it with fresh fuel and a dose of something like Techron, and try running it again. Hook it up to a load that will make the generator work from light to as heavy as the wattage rating will support(fans, heaters, power tools, etc). I store my generator as empty as I can when I know it will not be used and covered. During the season when I expect a storm that might knock out power for more than a few hours I fill it half way with Top Tier 89 oct and a heavy dosage of Sta-bil.

I couldn't have said it any better.

The only thing I'd add is to "toe tag" your cans of fuel documenting date filled and how much/what kind of fuel stabilizer/preservative.

Seafoam is the best thing since sliced bread. I run it in everything, including my diesel pickup.

Seafoam is good for routine use for maintenance, a few ounces to a few gallons. Techron is a PEA-based cleaner that is much more effective against existing fuel system varnish.

Way too efficient for me. I'm lucky to have gas in any can

Storing fuel is not the brightest thing you can do if your in tornado country I understand but a hurricane? You know it's coming go get fuel, heck you can get it a week before if it misses use it in your car. Fu&k ethanol
