What do you think is the most well built brand new O/U shotgun in the $1000 range?

O/U and sxs shotguns are made to last multiple generations. I would look hard at a used guns, I would save some more money and look at something like the Browning Citori

Gonna try to go that route.

I'm a pretty well known browning hater, but they're doubles seem pretty damn nice to me for what they cost.

They make a good o/u, heavy with 30" barrels is a good choice for a gun that will have duck loads shot through it...

A fricking Ford Escape. Turned down an explorer and Grand Cherokee. I got off $10k or so cheaper though.

Chances are it won't have much of anything shot through it, but the old man used to be a big time duck hunter and there's no telling when he might get back into it.

He's been obsessed with owning an O/U his whole life, and his wingmaster finally crapped out after about 50 billion shells.

Go to Cabelas in the gun room and then the counter and handle all they have. See what fits him well, pay attention to brands and barrel lengths, possibly the length of the stock (LOP) and then start looking used online...

SpicyStacy, my buddy bought a used diesel TDI VW and loves it. I rode in it and like it. Good looking car. Spacious. Gets a whopping 40+ mpg!

Getting about a third of that in my Landcruiser

Guns with longer barrels are more in favor at the moment. 26" barrels sell at a discount, 28" more and 30-32" at the higher levels will everything else being equal. Some guns balance on the hinge pin, others in front of it. It changes how the gun handles and swings...

Whatever standard fat boy size is would work fine

He's looking at a new CZ something right now. I'm looking to convince him to get a browning or ruger red label if they can be found in that range.

My TDI Passat was bought last April new, has 85k miles and I get 46 mpg. Couldn't be happier at the moment with the purchase...
