I have two Ross Gunnison reels which Are tanks.
I caught rooster fish, tarpon, and tons of redfish on it. Ross use to make some good stuff. I just have not been in fly fishing stuff for years.

7-9 wt bass rod or redfish rod or inshore rod.
In fly fishing the reel holds the line unless you get into a fish that runs like a tarpon or rooster fish or tuna.
I got a stiff sage 8wt with Ross Gunnison that acts more like a 9wt. You got to really know how to cast it to get a good tight loop. Ross Gunnison is a reel lighter than the billy pate reel I have. The only time I pull out a billy pate reel is if I go tarpon fishing in Florida. Never ever surf fish with a billy pate it will shut down the cork drag.
Ross Gunnison I used it in the surf at Grand Isle a lot and it still works.

If it is stream fishing 4-6wt more common.
I got a glass rod that is more forgiving for trout and smaller bass.
This one paired with Ross Gunnison and that setup is awesom.

The problem is that if you sell it and get a lighter rod and reel for trout, you will be hooked on fly fishing and then want a heavier rod and reel for bigger fish...don't sell it yet, you may regret it!

what would you take for it

Throw out on offer. I'll see if it is decent and if I can get a different setup with the cash.

ETA: The reel is in very good condition and contains backing and line.
