Flea medicine for new Lab puppy

Comfortis is supposed to be real good.

gmoney, this is a side issue question, but do you have to give him that medicine all the time? The reason I ask this is because I was told that if your yard buts up continuously against a neighbors(which is more common) that if any of your neighbors have fleas that means they are also in your yard too. And granted, one can buy that yard spray killer, but I have been told it is a major pain to keep on top of and ward them off with continual fleas around ya. Both my neighbor's have dogs on either side of me. And they each have fleas terrible. I cannot see them not itching ever. And their owners do nothing for them/don't care.

I moved in a house 2 years ago that has a nice yard/everything all set up for some dogs, but I have been holding off till I move out. I am not moving out cause of those fleas, but looking for another reason. But I wont dare get my greatly desired dogs with massive flea problems all around me with neighbors. I once had a dog get fleas and those suckers drove me crazy at night/biting me. And they are a major pain in the arse getting rid of out of your house. Many hospitals have flea epidemic issues too that they cannot fully get rid of. Nasty critters. If I am wrong in anything I said about fleas, please do correct me: with dog shots/stuff like this, I am a novice. But just wondering how flea medicine works or is good?

gmoneny, sorry about the loss of your lab. If I had to pick one breed that was probably my favorite, it would be labs. When my lab died it killed me, and that was years ago and I still think of her often.

But if you could please answer me on the flea medication as you call it: Is it shots or some pills you give them or what? I know of flee collars, and flea bubble baths, been there, done that. However the collars just keep the dog from itching mainly, imo. It does nothing to kill them or ward them away from a house/yard. The flea baths kill them, but they can get fleas 2 mins after giving a bath from going back outside. So what form is the "flea Medicine" you are talking about and how does it work? Such as, does it just kill any attached to them at the time? Or is it a preventive kind of thing maybe?

COMFORTIS chewable tablets kill fleas and are indicated for the prevention and treatment of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) on dogs for one month. COMFORTIS chewable tablets are given orally once a month, at the recommended minimum dosage of 13.5 mg/Ib (30 mg/kg).

looks like it kills the fleas and the eggs from what i read. i am doing this just as a preventive measure trying to start him out while he is young trying to train him for duck hunting too.
